Perhaps, it is the most legendary region of Italy. It is the largest island in Mediterranean Sea, mafia birthplace with an active volcano Etna on it. Moreover, it is an incredible mixture of various nationalities and cultures: Greeks and Arabs, Norman and French, Spaniards and Phoenicians – legacy of these cultures is kept in traditions, architecture, and, of course in local products. For example, Ricotta cheese was first made by Greeks, and thanking to Arabs, who came to Sicily in ancient times, tasty Italian gelato (ice-cream) and marzipan are made here now.
De Licateum also has a product from Sicily – Ragusano DOP cheese by Luigi Guffanti. It is a Sicilian version of Caciocavallo – semihard stretch-curd cheese having its name from province of Raguza. Raguzano is made of cow’s milk, feeding on Monti Iblen table-land. Ragusano is a table cheese and it goes well both fresh and fried.
